Honey can be used in all sorts of ways, from sweetening up your tea to bringing relief to an upset stomach. But did you know about the benefits of honey for your face?
For centuries, honey has been used in cosmetic recipes and treatments to improve the appearance of the skin and prevent acne and other problems from developing on the face and elsewhere on the body.
Furthermore, if you’re looking to add extra moisture and beauty to your skin, honey is the perfect ingredient to consider.
Read this article to learn about the top benefits of honey for your face and DIY honey face packs so you can get that natural glow you’ve always wanted!
Top Benefits of Honey for Your Face
Natural honey is loaded with antioxidants, which help combat skin damage from free radicals and reduce inflammation. When applied to your face, honey acts as a gentle exfoliant that sloughs off dead skin cells.
The key to getting these benefits is using raw or organic honey—the processing and heating actually kill off many of honey’s healing ingredients.
Keep In Mind
Honey works best when used in conjunction with a skincare routine that includes good water intake, regular exercise, and limiting sun exposure (or using sunscreen).
Avoid smoking and alcohol, eat a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, limit stress where possible, and take care not to over-exfoliate.

2. Anti-Aging Properties
Because honey contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties, it can help fight wrinkles and fine lines.
Try mixing honey with cucumber juice to make a face mask that firms and tightens your skin. Mix two tablespoons of honey with one tablespoon of warm water until it’s a smooth consistency. Stir in three tablespoons of fresh-squeezed cucumber juice until combined, and then pour over your face after washing gently.
Leave on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water; don’t wash off as it is easier to remove after 15 minutes have passed!
The vitamin C content in cucumbers will also reduce inflammation, leaving you looking refreshed and dewy.
If you’re going to use honey as a natural moisturizer, first thoroughly cleanse your face and make sure it’s dry.
Apply a very thin layer of honey to your face. Wait 20 minutes until it completely dries. Rinse with warm water, massage another thin layer of honey into your skin, and rinse again.
Be careful not to get any in your eyes (or any other part of your body that’s sensitive). Honey is amazing for moisturizing because it has natural humectant properties that pull moisture from the air onto your skin.
4. Skin Healing
If you want the skin to look and feel its best, honey is a great way to achieve it. This sweet substance is known for helping reduce scars and redness, soothe dry and irritated skin, soften fine lines, eliminate blackheads, and combat acne.
While honey has been used for thousands of years as a beauty aid—and many clinical studies have found evidence supporting its claims—you don’t have to eat honey straight from the jar to get these benefits.
You can add it to your regular face care routine with a few simple steps. You may even see improvements in as little as four weeks!
While different types of honey provide varying benefits, they all contain antioxidants that help remove free radicals from your skin while hydrating and softening it.
5. Acne Prevention
Whether it’s acne or eczema, honey is one of the best things you can use to get rid of and prevent blemishes.
We know, that’s a big claim to make—but honey does wonders for your face and has been used for thousands of years.
If you have a problem with your skin, consider making honey part of your daily routine. You can even mix a few ingredients together in order to craft your own natural face wash.
Mix three tablespoons of raw honey with mashed avocado (for a good dose of omega-3), two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
Apply this mask all over your face (avoiding the eye area) and wait 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water.
6. Lightens Dark Spots
While it may seem like honey’s light color has nothing to do with it, honey is one of nature’s best bleaching agents.
As such, one benefit of honey for your face is that if you suffer from acne scars or other hyper-pigmentation issues, natural and organic raw honey can significantly lighten dark spots over time.
Choose a pure, raw form to ensure all its skin-friendly benefits. The anti-inflammatory properties in raw honey help combat redness and irritation from active acne and ongoing acne scarring without drying out or damaging sensitive skin.
The antimicrobial properties in raw, natural honey also help control the spread of harmful bacteria that cause pimples.
7. Reduce Wrinkles
Using honey as a facial treatment is effective because it’s an antioxidant and contains anti-bacterial properties that fight against infection in your skin.
Additionally, when you use honey on your face, you help to reduce wrinkles by tightening and hardening your skin.
In order to get rid of fine lines, dab a bit of raw honey on your face before bed and leave it there overnight so that it can soak into your skin.
As we grow older, we start to lose collagen production in our body, which results in sagging skin that loses its elasticity.
If you want to prevent wrinkling or reverse signs already present on your face due to aging, use raw honey because it actually helps increase collagen production as well.
8. Improves Complexion
While honey is most commonly known for its use in sweetening foods, it’s also a natural exfoliant and moisturizer.
Exfoliating once or twice a week helps keep skin looking fresh and new, while moisturizing keeps it hydrated and glowing.
By using honey on your face instead of chemical-laden scrubs, you not only reap all of these benefits but also reduce your exposure to harsh chemicals that can be difficult to wash off. It’s perfect for those with sensitive skin or skin conditions like rosacea, acne, or eczema.
Mix two tablespoons of raw honey, one tablespoon of yogurt, and one teaspoon gram of flour in a bowl. Add some water if needed to make it more spreadable.
Apply this mixture onto your clean dry face and gently massage with circular motions starting from the forehead towards the chin area for about five minutes.
Wash off by splashing cold water on your face. Pat dry with a towel before applying moisturizer/serum/sunscreen lotion as needed
9. Natural Sunscreen
Getting sunburned isn’t just bad for your skin—it can be downright dangerous. However, thanks to its powerful antioxidants, honey is a great (and healthy) alternative to using traditional sunscreen products on your face.
In fact, some researchers have found that honey may provide broad-spectrum protection against UV rays without causing irritation.
Plus, even in small amounts, it can help hydrate and firm skin due to its anti-aging properties.

This is my personal favorite recipe. All you need is honey, almond powder, and lemon juice. The honey makes your face appear soft, smooth, and young, whereas lemon juice exfoliates and lightens skin.
This mixture will prevent pimples and blackheads from appearing on your face. Mix one tablespoon of almond powder with a teaspoon each of honey and lemon juice to make a paste that you can apply to your face.
Leave it on for 15 minutes so it has ample time to soak into your skin, and then wash it off with warm water and a mild soap or an anti-bacterial cleanser.
2. Sandalwood Face Pack
Sandalwood powder is not only used as a natural skin bleaching agent but also promotes the regeneration of damaged cells.
Plus, it has anti-inflammatory properties that will help you get rid of those pimples in no time. Mix half a teaspoon of sandalwood powder with half a teaspoon of honey and 2 drops of rose water to form a thick paste.
Apply it to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash your face with cold water to reveal glowing skin. Repeat once or twice a week for best results.
3. Banana Face Pack
This one’s super simple to make and use. All you need is a ripe banana, honey, and a clean face! You can mash up your banana as much or as little as you like (the more mashed, the better it will stick to your skin) and mix it with 2-3 tablespoons of honey.
Now apply in gentle circular motions on your face. Leave it on for about 20 minutes or until dry. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.
4. Tomato Face Pack
This face pack is great to prevent your skin from developing wrinkles or acne. Add two tablespoons of tomato juice and half a teaspoon of honey to a small bowl.
Mix them well until you get a homogeneous mixture. Apply it to your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before washing it off with cold water. Repeat daily twice to get rid of dark spots and improve skin texture.

Fuller’s earth is one of those multipurpose clay-based ingredients that you can use in your beauty routine.
If you combine it with lemon juice and honey, you’ll get a delicious face mask that will give your skin an intense glow.
